MEMORIAL CHORTEN
Built-in honour of Bhutan’s 3rd King, Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, the National Memorial Chorten is a beautiful tribute to world peace. The word “Chorten” in Dzongkha, Bhutan’s national language, refers to a Buddhist shrine containing precious religious relics and offerings. This particular chorten is one of Thimphu’s most beloved landmarks and is frequented daily by hundreds of Bhutanese, especially elders who can be found circumambulating the stupa throughout the day. You’ll meet locals from all walks of life sharing warm and positive energy around the temple and in the perimeter gardens. A must-visit while in Thimphu – and just under a half-hour walk away from The Pema.
