TASHICHHO DZONG
Tashichho Dzong or “Fortress of Auspicious Doctrine” was built in 1641 by the Founder of Bhutan, Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal. Since 1952, this fortress has served as the seat of the Royal Government and presently houses the Throne Room of His Majesty the King, as well the Office of the Chief Abbot of the Central Monastic Body.
Notably, the very popular annual Thimphu “Tshechu,” or “festival” is also held at the courtyard of Tashichho Dzong during the month of September. This fortress is less than a 5 minute drive away from The Pema.
