WALKING TRAILS
For those who love the outdoors, Thimphu offers some lovely day walking trails and light hikes for anyone who wants to connect with nature. One of our favourites is the scenic and invigorating 8km Thimphu-Phajoding Trail. This amazing trail ascends gradually through thick blue pine forests and takes about 3 hours of consistent walking. Phajoding Mountain is famous for its monastery and is located at an altitude of 3,870m from where you’ll be treated to a stunning bird’s eye view of the entire Thimphu valley. Phajoding’s sparse population consists mostly of monks and devotees who meditate in caves nearby. Not only can you visit the temple and hermitages, but the locals are also very hospitable and will offer a glimpse into rural life. An overnight campsite is possible too should you wish to linger – And if so, you might as well hike up the mountain further to the magnificent lakes!
